System State Restore using Windows Backup from parallel install

If you can't access Windows then the only option for you would be to do a parallel install. From the parallel install you can restore the settings of your original install and allow access to your original install. Do do this do the following:


  • Do a parallel install of windows Click here for step by step guide

  • When the parallel install is done, install Windows Backup. Click here for guide.

  • Now open Windows Backup by clicking on "Start, Accessories, System Tools then Backup"

  • Next click on "Advanced Mode"

  • Click on Restore Wizard.

  • Now click on "Next"

  • Next browse to backup file and select it

  • Now double click on the file which should now be located in the left hand window, and select on "System State"

  • Click on "next"

  • Click on "Advanced"

  • Select "Alternative Location" from the drop down menu

  • Now select the "Alternative Location" (Usually C:\Windows) where your original install is.

  • Next select "Replace Existing files" and click next

  • Select all options from the next menu and click "Next"

  • Finally click on "Finished"

  • Your system files will have been restored to the date of the backup. Everything should now work OK.
