Not all viruses are noticeable, they don’t always infect your computer and create havoc, nor do most flash images on your screen saying “Hi I’m a virus”, but one thing most are guaranteed to do is slow your computer down. Some can be so bad that they will make your computer unusable.
So what can you do? First go to http://www.windowsreinstall.com/virusremoval/software.htm and do a free online scan. (Please note that this program is browser based and does not offer protection. It also may take sometime to install, especially if you are using a 56k modem to connect to the net.)
Once installed select “My Computer” icon, select the “Auto Clean” option and run click on “Scan”. The scan may take up to an hour to run.
When the scan has finished, simply close down the program. If a virus has been found take note of the name, just incase you have future problems.
Well the first and most important thing is done, your computer should now be virus free. The next step is to protect your computer from future attacks. So download free anti-virus software from http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php , install it and immediately update the software.
If regularly updated the AVG free anti-virus software will keep your computer safe from these unwanted guests.
